Supporting Children Across the Spectrum

From autism to cerebral palsy, from sensory challenges to physical disabilities. We work with children with diverse conditions and complex needs.

Every Child is Different

A diagnosis doesn’t tell us who your child is. It doesn’t tell us what they love, what frustrates them, or what they’re capable of.

We see your child first. The condition second.

That said, understanding the challenges associated with different conditions helps us provide better support. Below is an overview of conditions we commonly work with and how our therapies can help.

NEUROLOGICAL CONDITIONS

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Brain injury from trauma, stroke, infection, or lack of oxygen. Can affect movement, thinking, behaviour, and communication.

How we help:

Cerebral Palsy

A group of conditions affecting movement and posture caused by brain injury before, during, or shortly after birth. Can range from mild to severe.

How we help:

  • Physiotherapy: Muscle tone management, preventing contractures, mobility, gait training, equipment prescription
  • Occupational Therapy: Fine motor skills, adaptive equipment, daily living skills
  • Exercise Physiology: Fitness, functional strength, endurance
  • Hydrotherapy: Reducing spasticity, pain-free movement, range of motion

Acquired Brain Injury

A group of conditions affecting movement and posture caused by brain injury before, during, or shortly after birth. Can range from mild to severe.

How we help:

  • Physiotherapy: Muscle tone management, preventing contractures, mobility, gait training, equipment prescription
  • Occupational Therapy: Fine motor skills, adaptive equipment, daily living skills
  • Exercise Physiology: Fitness, functional strength, endurance
  • Hydrotherapy: Reducing spasticity, pain-free movement, range of motion

Spina Bifida

A condition where the spine doesn’t form properly before birth. Can affect mobility, sensation, and bladder/bowel function.

How we help:

GENETIC CONDITIONS

Down Syndrome

A genetic condition causing developmental delays and physical characteristics. Children have low muscle tone and may have heart conditions or other health challenges.

How we help:

Muscular Dystrophy

A group of genetic conditions causing progressive muscle weakness and degeneration. Different types affect children at different ages.

How we help:

  • Physiotherapy: Maintaining mobility, preventing contractures, equipment prescription, quality of life
  • Occupational Therapy: Adaptive equipment, conserving energy, daily living skills
  • Hydrotherapy: Low-impact exercise, maintaining function, pain management

Fragile X Syndrome

A genetic condition causing intellectual disability, behavioural challenges, and physical characteristics. Can include sensory sensitivities.

How we help:

Rett Syndrome

A rare genetic condition affecting mostly girls, causing severe impairments. Progressive loss of skills in early childhood.

How we help:

DEVELOPMENTAL CONDITIONS

Global Developmental Delay

When a child is significantly delayed in two or more areas of development (motor, speech, thinking, social). May later receive a more specific diagnosis.

How we help:

Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD/Dyspraxia)

Difficulty with coordination and motor planning. Kids appear clumsy, struggle with physical activities, handwriting, and organisation.

How we help:

  • Occupational Therapy: Motor planning, handwriting, coordination, organisation skills
  • Physiotherapy: Gross motor skills, balance, coordination
  • Exercise Physiology: Building confidence in physical activity, sport preparation

Intellectual Disability

Limitations in intellectual functioning and adaptive behaviours. Varies from mild to profound.

How we help:

  • Occupational Therapy: Life skills, independence, community participation
  • Physiotherapy: Physical development, mobility
  • Exercise Physiology: Fitness, healthy habits, social participation through movement

Hypotonia (Low Muscle Tone)

“Floppy” muscles, reduced muscle tone. Can be a symptom of various conditions or exist on its own.

How we help:

  • Physiotherapy: Core strength, postural stability, endurance, preventing complications
  • Occupational Therapy: Fine motor strength, daily living skills
  • Exercise Physiology: Building strength and stamina
    Hydrotherapy: Strengthening in supportive environment

LEARNING AND ATTENTION CONDITIONS

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)

Difficulty with attention, impulse control, and activity levels. Can significantly impact school and home life.

How we help:

  • Occupational Therapy: Organisation skills, impulse control strategies, sensory regulation, focus strategies
  • Exercise Physiology: Energy regulation, focus improvement through structured movement

Dysgraphia

Specific difficulty with handwriting. Can affect letter formation, spacing, writing speed, and written expression.

How we help:

  • Occupational Therapy: Pencil grip, hand strength, visual motor skills, letter formation, alternative writing strategies

PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL CONDITIONS

Juvenile Arthritis

Joint inflammation in children. Causes pain, stiffness, and can affect growth and development.

How we help:

  • Physiotherapy: Joint mobility, pain management, maintaining function
  • Occupational Therapy: Joint protection, adaptive equipment, daily activities
  • Hydrotherapy: Pain relief, gentle exercise, improved mobility

Obesity and Weight Management

Childhood obesity can affect physical health, emotional wellbeing, and social participation.

How we help:

  • Exercise Physiology: Building positive relationships with movement, sustainable activity, healthy habits
  • Physiotherapy: Supporting safe physical activity

Chronic Pain Conditions

Ongoing pain from various causes. Can significantly impact participation in daily life.

How we help:

  • Physiotherapy: Pain management strategies, gentle movement
  • Occupational Therapy: Activity modification, pacing strategies
  • Hydrotherapy: Pain relief, gentle exercise

Post-Surgical Rehabilitation

Recovery after surgery (orthopaedic, cardiac, neurological).

How we help:

  • Physiotherapy: Rebuilding strength, mobility, returning to function
  • Occupational Therapy: Daily living skills during recovery, adaptive strategies
  • Hydrotherapy: Early mobilisation in supportive environment

SENSORY AND PROCESSING CONDITIONS

Sensory Processing Disorder

Difficulty processing sensory information. Can be oversensitive (sensory avoiding) or undersensitive (sensory seeking).

How we help:

  • Occupational Therapy: Sensory integration, regulation strategies, environmental modifications, building tolerance
  • Exercise Physiology: Movement for regulation
  • Hydrotherapy: Calming sensory input

RARE CONDITIONS

We also support children with rare and complex conditions not listed here. If your child has a condition we haven’t mentioned, that doesn’t mean we can’t help.

Get in touch. We’ll have an honest conversation about whether we’re the right fit for your family.

NOT SURE WHICH THERAPY YOUR CHILD NEEDS?

You don’t have to figure it out alone.

For NDIS participants: Your support coordinator or LAC can help determine which therapies might benefit your child.

Not sure where to start? Contact us. We’ll talk through your child’s challenges and recommend appropriate services.

MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH

Many children benefit from multiple therapies working together. A child with cerebral palsy might see both a physiotherapist (for gross motor skills) and an Occupational Therapist (for fine motor and daily living skills).

We work collaboratively. Our team communicates. Goals align. You don’t have to coordinate everything yourself.

FROM TODDLERHOOD TO ADULTHOOD

Conditions don’t disappear when children turn 18. Our partnership with Fuzzys Allied Health means your child can transition to adult services when the time comes.

Same philosophy. Familiar faces. Continued support.
